Miami Dolphins vs New York Jets Week 15 Betting Pick

This is a game between two teams who are having very different seasons and have very different things to play for heading into this game.  The Miami Dolphins are right in the thick of the wild card race in the AFC currently sitting tied with the Broncos for the final wild card spot with an 8-5 record to this point in the season.  The Jets, on the other hand, are out of playoff contention with a 4-9 record at this point in their disappointing season.

Dolphins vs Jets Odds

Here are the odds for this game from

  • Dolphins -2.5
  • Jets +2.5
  • Over/Under 37.5

My Pick

You may look at each teams record and then look at the odds and think the Dolphins are an obvious pick in this spot.  The problem is that Ryan Tannehill was injured in last weeks game and now the Dolphins will be relying on Matt Moore under centre vs the Jets.  I would think the line would be closer to -5 if Tannehill was in the lineup.

Personally, I don’t think this QB switch is a huge issue for the Dolphins.  Yes, Tannehill has been playing fairly well of late since he’s been asked to do less than earlier in his career thanks to the Dolphins moving more to a run-centric offense thanks to the emergence of Jay Ajayi.  The Dolphins receiving weapons are all healthy as well with Jarvis Landry and DeVante Parker both playing solidly of late and Kenny Stills adding another deep threat to this offense.  I really think that the Dolphins will still be able to move the ball against this weak Jets defense and put up points in this game.

On the other side of the ball Bryce Petty is now the QB for the Jets, so it would be very difficult to say that the Jets have an advantage in the QB category in this game.  Brandon Marshall has been very quiet of late and I don’t expect him to have a big game with Petty as the QB.  The Jets won last week against the 49ers thanks in a big part to Bilal Powell who ate the 49ers defense up after Matt Forte was injured.  Forte will likely be back in, but the Dolphins will definitely have to keep Powell in check as well.  Miami has been successful against pass catching running backs this year so I don’t expect another big game from Powell.

The Dolphins are 7-1 in their last 8 games and I expect them to keep rolling in a must win game against a weak opponent.  The Jets got a win last week, but it was over the lowly 49ers and they had lost 4 games before that.

Yes, Tannehill is out, but the Dolphins should still be able to handle this Jets team.
